What separates an agency that stays busy from one that becomes genuinely successful?

Most estate agency owners don’t have a problem with hard work. They put in the hours, support their team, keep deals moving and handle the problems that appear daily.

But working hard is not always the same as building a strong business.

The Secret Mindset of Top Estate Agents explores the habits, decisions and ways of thinking that help estate agency owners build something more profitable, valuable and enjoyable to run.

What will you learn?

The book will help you think more clearly about:

  • where you want your agency to be in three years;
  • what is currently stopping it from getting there;
  • setting goals that lead to practical action;
  • making better decisions under pressure;
  • improving your own performance and that of your team;
  • building an agency that is less dependent on you; and
  • creating long-term value without allowing the business to take over your life.

It is not a technical accounting guide. It brings together lessons from business, estate agency and elite sport to help you step back from the day-to-day and look at what could make the biggest difference next.

Business experience meets elite performance

The book is written by Malcolm Palmer FCA, founder of A4G Chartered Accountants.

Malcolm has spent more than 30 years working with owner-managed businesses and studying why some owners achieve lasting success while others work just as hard but never quite get the results, or the life, they wanted.

The book also draws on the experience of Olympic medallists Steve Backley OBE and Roger Black MBE, applying lessons from performing at the highest level in sport to the realities of running an estate agency.

Together, they explore what success looks like when it is built one good decision at a time.

Five questions to ask yourself

  1. Where do you want your agency to be in three years?
  2. Where is it now?
  3. What level of performance will get you from one to the other?
  4. What do you need to do differently?
  5. What is stopping you from doing it?

They sound like simple questions. Answering them honestly and then doing something about the answers is the difficult bit.
