People will remember our offices as the well-known bikers’ haunt which became notorious through the sixties and early seventies. Most weekends and evenings locals would meet up to show off their bikes and take up ‘the challenge’.
As the story goes, the challenge was to put a song on the jukebox and get past Brands Hatch to the next roundabout and back before it stopped playing. Several never made it back, and the road leading up to Farningham acquired its name ‘Death Hill’.
On our opening day at Kings Lodge, we invited some of the bikers along to share their memories and any memorabilia, and walk through those doors of the Johnson’s Café, as they know it, again. We have a selection of photographs of the bikers and Johnson’s café still hanging up in our office today, and we have scrapbook of the history and more photographs in our reception area.
