1st March 2025 was a big day for A4G. And me personally.

First of all it was the 30th anniversary of the day I started the practice in the little office over the top of the hairdresser’s in Longfield.

But more significantly, it was also the day I officially stopped being Managing Partner of A4G.

Whilst it sounds like a huge change, it’s not really. We’ve been working towards this day for years. I’ve been sharing management responsibilities with the members of the A4G Board for a long time and we’ll be sharing them afterwards as well.

Congratulations to Emma White and Josh Curties who will share the role of Managing Partner. Emma who joined as a fresh-faced teenager in 1999 will have the responsibilities that involve looking outside the business, to the future and all the issues that help us grow. Josh who looked every inch a future managing partner when he arrived from University in 2006 will oversee the internal departments that keep everything ticking and the service to our existing clients running efficiently.

And if you don’t mind the indulgence, congratulations to me. I’ve loved being the leader for 30 years but it’s time for the buck to no longer always stop with me.

I’m not retiring. God forbid. I love working with my clients, I love working with a team that I’ve watched grow up, I love tinkering with systems and processes, training staff, helping people grow. I’m also going to be doing more work for clients who are starting to look at the horizon, thinking about how they make their business less dependent on them and helping them work towards either a succession plan (like A4G has just done) or a sale for the best possible price. Watch this space for future events.

In the meantime, we’re now only a few days away from the launch of my second book Making your business less dependent on you”.

I say second but it was actually the first one I started; thirteen years ago believe it or not. It’s all the theory you’ll ever need to know about making your business less dependent on you wrapped around the story of the fictional Bright family with whom you might recognise a few of your own family’s traits.
